Felt Tree Ornament

I made this little ornament for some friends of ours for Christmas. I took my inspiration from this wonderful Japanese imported fabric that was part of my exciting purchase at Fancy Tiger. I love the colors and style of the illustration of the print on this fabric. I saw the tree and thought it would make a fun ornament. I think it turned out quite pretty. I like the fact that it looks festive but is a bit out of the ordinary realm of "Christmasy". Plus it's made of felt and felt is so fun to work with!

This will probably be my last post before the New Year. My family is taking a trip out of state to visit my husband's wonderful family! Merry Christmas to everyone, I hope you all have a beautiful holiday. See you in the new year!

I heart Anthropologie!

Yesterday we met some friends of ours for brunch at the tea house in Boulder, if you've never been there and are near by you must go! It is beautiful and the food is really good! After a lovely brunch we walked around Pearl Street, the weather was gorgeous, and then went down to the 29th Street Mall where Anthropologie resides. This is one of my very favorite stores though I have never actually purchased anything from there (a bit too steep for my wallet) until yesterday. I love the colors of these pretty little bowls which are cheering up my kitchen cabinet and are already in use. They were very reasonably priced (larger ones were $4 and the small ones under $2) and I just fell in love with the colors right away. That store is beautiful and now there are some beauties in my cabinet :). It was a beautiful day and we had a wonderful time. We spent almost the entire day walking around with friends. It was so relaxing and fun!

Brennan's cape!

I've had the pieces for this cut out and ready to go since I made Olivia's cape. I finally sewed them together and finished it this morning. Its seems I traded one mistake for another in the making of these capes. Olivia's emblem was too high and not quite centered. Brennan's emblem's placement is good but I boogered up part of the applique. It slid out of place while under a damp cloth in the ironing process! I was quite disappointed but glad I was able to fix it as much as I did, sorry Jenny :{. I thought about trying to take off the whole thing and start over but I was afraid I'd mess it up further. It's just for play anyway, yet the perfectionist in me cringes when I see it. I've learned a lot about slippery fabrics like this though and they are not easy to work with.

In between the two capes I made my kids stockings, finished my gift for my mother-in-law, and made a set of pot holders for my sister Mandy. She just moved into her first apartment, and hopefully she doesn't randomly choose to read my blog anytime soon :). Presents are piling up under our tree. I love finishing a project, wrapping it up, and adding it to the pile!

Welcoming December with handmade stockings.

My children now have their own stockings! I finished these up last night. The last couple of Christmas' Olivia has been using my childhood stocking.  Jackson was two months old last Christmas so I didn't think he would mind if he didn't have one at all. I've been stocking hunting for my kids for the last two years and never found one that I liked enough to buy. Now that I sew I decided to make them myself. I used a vintage pattern that my grandmother handed down to me and modified it. I also used a Pottery Barn Kids stocking as inspiration. I'm really happy with how these turned out. Olivia really likes hers, I hope Jackson does too. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but my husband was quite impressed. In fact he said they were amazing! Compliments like that don't come by too often so I figured I'd bask for a little bit :).

*Sorry the pictures aren't that great, though I'm liking the fake "mom said to smile so I'm smiling" smile that Olivia is wearing.
