I was looking through my bookmarked tutorials that I've collected over the last year or so and was reminded of this beautiful mobile. The bird is a free pattern download from here. I think originally I marked it for a project to put in my daughter's room. But who's to say grown-ups can't have a mobile in their room? The yellow fabrics in my new fat quarters match our room's decor and would look beautiful against our newly painted warm grey walls. I've been wanting to really decorate our bedroom for the longest time, but it's just never in the budget. So I've been taking small steps to make it a place I like to be. I made our duvet cover over a year ago, which has provided the anchor for our color scheme. We finally re-painted the walls in November. A handmade element using things that I already have is a perfect addition. It's sure to add some whimsy and sophistication to a corner of our bedroom. So lovely, I may get started on it today! I'd also love to do something like this above our bed.

LOVE this! They have some mobiles like this only with leaves and flowers that I've been admiring in a shop in downtown Fort Collins. Unfortunately, they cost $800 or more. When I'm a millionaire, I might get one!
I also love Nie Nie... I did some silhouettes of my boys after seeing hers. They're easy! You could do them.
I love this too! I totally agree that adults can have mobiles too. Calder would agree with us :-)
I was just thinking last night how great it would be to do silhouettes of Syd, RJ, Buster (the cat), Annie (the dog) and me -- seriousness and whimsy.
The mobile is precious -- one would look great in Sydney's room, too. I'll tuck this away in the creative project/idea file. Thanks for the inspiration, Katie.
i love that mobile! so cute!! i had that one bookmarked too a while ago but now the boy is so big... maybe i'll make it for him anyway one day!
